This is the question we are asked the most at Soul. It is also the hardest question for us to answer!
There are many variables to consider when figuring out how much CBD to take.
Every person is different. Age, weight, lifestyle, genetics, and environment all play an important role in your serving. Your body is as unique as your soul.
Additionally, your WHY for taking CBD will impact what an appropriate serving for you is. For example, whether you are taking it for overall health and wellness or whether you are taking it for a specific condition. Also, how severe your condition or symptoms are.
While we don’t have an easy answer to give you, we do have some guidelines that can help you answer “How much CBD oil should I take?”
GUIDELINE FOR CBD SERVINGS
Of course, first-and-foremost, you should consult with a healthcare practitioner (as you should when taking anything new). Especially if you are taking other medication or are having major health concerns. Your well-being is so important, you deserve all of the support and the best care!
A note for discussing CBD with your doctor or a health professional: have you read our article about the endocannabinoid system yet? If you haven’t, go check it out now! As a quick reminder, CBD works primarily through the endocannabinoid system. Scientists only discovered this complex network of neurons in the ‘90s, so it is brand-spanking new. There is a lack of widespread knowledge about the endocannabinoid system, both in the general public and with doctors and healthcare professionals. This is not something they learned when they were in school, and it might not be something that has come up a lot for them. Taking that into consideration, we recommend that you learn as much as you can on your own before consulting with a healthcare practitioner so that you are prepared for any conversation. We also recommend giving practitioners a call to see if this is an area they are well versed on or experienced in. Choosing the right practitioner for you is so important with any health concerns, but especially when discussing something that is not widely understood or acknowledged.
CBD is safe to take. It does not have adverse side effects and you will not overdose. Because of this, some people think that means they should just start by taking a large serving right away.
At Soul, we are all about peak safety and health, so we like to take a more conservative approach. Even though we know that CBD is safe and that we don’t have to worry about anything crazy happening when we take it, we love to treat our bodies like the temples they are!
So, we suggest that you start with a low serving (like one of our CBD gummies) and see how it feels. Keep that serving for a couple of days and monitor your mood and your calmness. We love to use journaling to really tune in to our experience during this process!
If you don’t notice a change, check with your vetted healthcare professional to discuss increasing your serving. If you do decide to increase your serving, continue to monitor your feelings for a few more days.
Rinse and repeat until you find your sweet spot.
